PEP Exam

CPA PEP is a graduate-level program for CPA candidates that focuses primarily on enhancing the ability to apply professional knowledge, values, ethics and attitudes in a professional context.

CPA PEP consists of six modules that continuously build knowledge and skill:

  • two common core modules that all CPA candidates must take
    • focus: the development of competencies in management and financial accounting in six core technical competency areas:
      • financial reporting
      • strategy and governance
      • management accounting
      • audit and assurance
      • finance
      • taxation
  • two electives that allow you to focus on two areas of career interest
    • choose from four different electives:
      • assurance (mandatory for CPA candidates pursuing careers in public accounting)
      • performance management
      • tax (mandatory for CPA candidates pursuing careers in public accounting)
      • finance
  • one capstone integrative module*
    • focus:
      • developing enabling competencies such as leadership and professional skills
      • integrating core competencies
  • one capstone exam preparation module*
    • focus: preparation for the Common Final Examination (CFE) that all CPA candidates must take

The modules also include some knowledge acquisition beyond the academic prerequisite level.

Each module ends in an examination. CPA candidates must pass each module examination to proceed to the next module.

This program takes two years to complete on a part-time basis as you work at relevant employment. Its structure and content are developed nationally, based on the CPA Competency Map, and are delivered provincially/regionally.

The admission requirements are an undergraduate or master’s degree and specific subject area coverage.

*Capstone courses are culminating courses. In them, you demonstrate what you have learned over the course of the program.
