Accessibility

Great events should welcome everyone.

At the Hamilton Convention Centre by Carmen’s, we are committed to creating an accessible and welcoming environment for all guests. Our facility meets AODA standards and features street-level entrances, accessible washroom designs, spacious elevators, and gender-neutral washrooms on the second floor. We continually monitor and implement new accessibility standards as they emerge to ensure our space remains inclusive and easy to navigate. If you are planning an event with additional needs—such as hearing-assistance devices, interpreters, or temporary seating requirements—we’re here to help you integrate those elements seamlessly with your event plans.

Accessibility Checklist

Accessibility is most effective when it’s considered early. This quick checklist is designed to help event planners create inclusive, welcoming experiences for all attendees.

Before The Event

  • Include an accessibility statement and contact details on your event website and registration communications.

  • Ask attendees at registration if they need specific accommodations (e.g., interpreters, assistive listening, dietary needs).

  • Designate a team contact responsible for coordinating accessibility requests.

Venue and Navigation

  • Clearly communicate accessible routes, entrances, washrooms, and elevators in pre-event materials. See our floorplans here.

  • Ensure aisles and pathways are clear and wide enough for mobility devices.

  • Provide clear, high-contrast signage and, where possible, tactile or braille wayfinding.

Communications

  • Offer assistive listening devices or captioning for presentations when feasible.

  • Share presentation materials in advance and ensure speakers use clear language.

Guest Comfort

  • Provide quiet spaces or sensory-friendly areas if possible.

  • Accept assistance animals and clearly list companion relief areas.

After The Event

  • Invite guest feedback on accessibility after the event to help improve future experiences.
