Community & Sustainability

Rooted in Hamilton. Built for what’s next.

Hamilton has always been a city that gets things done. It shows up, puts in the work, and quietly exceeds expectations. At the Hamilton Convention Centre, we take that same approach to how we operate, who we support, and the values we stand behind.

As a gathering place in the heart of downtown, we believe our impact should extend beyond the walls of our building. From reducing our environmental footprint, to driving meaningful economic activity, to creating an inclusive and welcoming space for every guest, our commitment to community and sustainability is practical, intentional, and deeply local. It’s not about making noise — it’s about doing the right thing, consistently, for the city we’re proud to call home.

Sustainability

The Hamilton Convention Centre is dedicated to minimizing its environmental footprint. Our facility utilizes LED lighting and a central utility plant for around the clock monitoring of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, ensuring efficient resource management. High efficiency toilets, motion sensor faucets, and Energy Star washing machines are standard in our washroom and laundry facilities. We also practice waste reduction with a comprehensive recycling program for paper, packaging, and food scraps, and use certified nontoxic cleaning products.

To further reduce our carbon footprint, we prioritize glassware and recyclable bottled beverages over disposables at our bars. We support local agriculture and the Niagara wine region by featuring seasonal Ontario produce and regional wines on our menus. Additionally, we partner with Mission Services to donate untouched leftover food to local Hamilton food shelters.

With a major bus terminal just steps from our building, attendees can easily access our venue without the need to drive. Plus, following our upcoming renovations, we will be adding more windows to maximize natural light, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere while enhancing energy efficiency.

In addition to having green walls after the building renovation to enhance the venue’s environmental sustainability, green walls can improve air quality and reduce temperatures, helping to save energy.

Community

The Hamilton Convention Centre plays a vital role in enhancing our community by attracting premier events to Hamilton. A dynamic convention and event venue in the downtown core fuels the city’s growth and development. The convention and event sector contributes significantly to Canada’s economy, and our revitalized facility will boost the reputation and economic vitality of our city, Hamilton.

Our events draw global organizations and guests, who often spend significantly more at local businesses compared to typical tourists. This spending benefits various sectors, including accommodations, transportation, retail, dining, entertainment, and attractions, leading to increased tax revenues that support local schools, hospitals, and community centers.

We take pride in using our platform to showcase the vibrant City of Hamilton to a broader audience.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

At the Hamilton Convention Centre by Carmens, we are deeply committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment, not only within our team but also in the way we serve our clients.
